BRE recommends FRP's so strongly that it has set up a new department solely to encourage their greater use through the UK Building Industry. Called NGCC and under the charge of Dr. Halliwell, President, the intention is to significantly increase the awareness of the outstanding advantages of this high performance material, already widely used through the aircraft, motor and sports industries.
Pultec® is a new product at the very cutting edge of plastics technology. This is state-of-the-art.
"Pultrusion" involves the blending of glass fibre matting into a tough thermosetting resin and pulling it through a series of dies.
The resultant Pultec profile is so strong that it is load bearing, like aluminium, but needs no metal inserts like PVCU.
Therefore, far larger windows and glazing screens can be produced, than is possible with PVCU - but without the thermal disadvantages of aluminium.
Not being thermoplastic (like PVCU) Pultec is then coloured either side to suit any scheme - also available in white!
Any time after installation, if required, the homeowner can paint the frames to change colour, repair damage etc. Unthinkable with PVCU - or aluminium.
Because the material is inert, the surface finish does not deteriorate as on wood windows. So redecoration is optional, not essential
